The Union of Syndicalists (ZSP) is conducting an information campaign about labour conditions in Starbucks, which opened in April in Poland.
ZSP had already taken part in an international day of action called by the IWW and IWA last year. A picket was held at the Wroclaw headquarters of AmRest, which operates Starbucks in this country.
When Starbucks opened, ZSP members held a "welcoming picket" in Warsaw. Informational pickets were also held on May 17 in both Warsaw and Wroclaw. May 17 was the fifth anniversary of the Starbucks Union.
The latest picket, May 31, unfortunately was cut short by a storm. This picket was also to be a funeral procession for a legendary local cafe, down the street from Starbucks, forced out of business by an incredibly huge rent increase.
ZSP members have also prepared information for AmRest workers (Pizza Hut, KFC, Starbucks and others) about basic workers' rights, health and safety in fast food restaurants and unions. A translation of films on the StopStarbucks page has also been made.
